About · River Loop
River Loop Runs is an informal Tuesday-evening running group in Kaunas, looping the Nemunas and Neris embankments at a pace that keeps everybody in the conversation. These notes are a record of what the ground, the weather and four years of easy kilometres have taught us.

River Loop Runs is four or five people on a Tuesday evening, sometimes fourteen, meeting under the bridge on the Neris embankment and running about eight kilometres at a pace that lets everybody talk. It started in the spring of 2022, when two of us worked out that we had spent a year and a half running the same loop separately, ten minutes apart. There is no membership, no fee, nothing to join and nobody in charge. Turn up twice and you are one of the regulars.
This site is where I write down what we have learned about running here, in this city, on these two rivers. Kaunas gives you flat embankments, an oak wood on higher ground with a climb that is steeper than it looks, a lake at Lampėdis on the western edge for long Sundays, and four months of winter in which the surface changes weekly. Most running advice is written for somewhere else. These notes are written for the ground under our own feet, by somebody who has got most of it wrong at least once.
Nothing here is coaching and none of it is for sale. I am not qualified to write a training plan for a stranger, and where these notes describe what we do, describing is all they are doing. I do not name the cafés we sit in afterwards, the people who run with me, or anything that would turn a quiet Tuesday into a destination. If you live here and you want eight easy kilometres on a Tuesday evening, the details are enough to find us, and that is on purpose.
